SSAW stands for Spiral Submerged Arc Welded.

The Manufacturing Process:
A long strip of steel (called a "skelp") is fed continuously from a coil.
The strip is formed at an angle and wound in a spiral pattern into a cylindrical shape. This creates a continuous helical seam.
The internal and external seams are then welded using the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process, where the welding arc is buried under a layer of flux. This results in a very strong, high-quality weld.

LSAW stands for Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded.
It refers to a type of large-diameter steel pipe where the weld seam runs in a straight line parallel to the length of the pipe. The welding process used to create this seam is Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), known for producing very strong, reliable welds.
The Manufacturing Process:
The most common method for making LSAW pipe is the UOE process:
U - Forming: A single, heavy steel plate is first pressed into a U shape using a U-press.
O - Forming: The U-shaped plate is then pressed into a circular O shape using an O-press.
Welding: The longitudinal seam is welded on the inside and outside using the Submerged Arc Welding process. The arc is buried under a layer of flux, which protects the weld from contamination and creates a high-quality, strong joint.
E - Expansion: The pipe is mechanically expanded (a process called "sizing") to ensure perfect roundness and diameter uniformity.
Another method is the JCOE process, which forms the plate through a series of J-shaped, C-shaped, and O-shaped presses before welding and expanding.
