From the gi pipe wall thickness chart, there are many types of wall thicknesses for galvanized steel pipes.But the most commonly used wall thicknesses are STD and SCH40 galvanized steel pipe.
Is STD pipe schedule 40?
STD (standard wall thickness)
It is the "standard wall thickness" in ASME B36.10M standard, suitable for medium and low pressure scenarios, and can meet the pressure requirements of most water supply and drainage, fire protection and other systems in general industrial and civil buildings.
According to the ANSI/ASME B36.10 standard, the wall thickness is fixed and does not vary with the pressure level.
Gi Pipe Schedule 40 (sch40)
It can withstand high pressure and is suitable for most medium pressure scenarios such as chemical engineering and oil and gas transportation in situations where pipeline strength is required.

Summary: For most small and medium-sized pipe diameters commonly labeled as "SCH40" or "STD" (such as DN15-DN200), they can be used interchangeably because they are the same.
But with the increase of pipe diameter, the difference in wall thickness between galvanized SCH40 and STD steel pipe will be significant, and SCH40 has stronger pressure bearing capacity.
