Galvanized iron pipe (abbreviated as GI pipe) is a kind of pipe material that undergoes hot-dip galvanization treatment on the surface of the steel pipe. This treatment can improve the corrosion resistance of the steel pipe and extend its service life. Galvanized iron pipe with threads is processed to have threads at the ends of the steel pipe, which is convenient for connecting various pipe fittings, etc. through the threads, thus achieving the assembly and connection of the pipeline system. This connection method has advantages such as easy installation and good sealing performance, and it is commonly used in building water supply and drainage systems, gas transmission systems, fire protection systems, as well as some industrial pipeline systems.

Features of GI Pipe with Thread

Threaded Galvanized Pipe Material & Coating:
Base Material: Mild steel (MS)
Coating: Hot-dip galvanized (zinc-coated) for corrosion resistance
Protection: Zinc layer prevents rust, extending lifespan in humid/outdoor environments

 Thread Steel Pipe Type:
BSP (British Standard Pipe) Thread -- Common in Asia, Europe
BSPP (G): Parallel (straight) threads (requires sealant/gasket)
BSPT (R): Tapered threads (self-sealing)
NPT (National Pipe Thread) -- Common in the USA
Tapered threads (seals with thread tape/compound)

 Gi Pipe Thread Ends:
Male Thread (External): Screws into a female-threaded fitting.
Female Thread (Internal): Receives a male-threaded pipe or fitting.

BSP Thread vs NPT Thread tube

BSP Thread tube

This is a British standard, which is divided into BSPP and BSPT. The BSPT thread metal pipe has a conical structure with a 1:16 taper, and its tooth profile angle is 55 degrees, with rounded crests and roots. The BSPP thread steel tube is cylindrical, equivalent to the domestic 55 - degree cylindrical pipe thread, and has only internal threads.BSP threaded pipes require gaskets or sealants to achieve sealing.

NPT Thread pipe

This is the American standard, which features a 60 degree tapered thread structure. The male and female fittings have a tapered design, which helps improve the sealing effect. The crests and roots of the NPT thread are flat.It is designed for metal - to - metal sealing and typically does not require additional sealants.
